The boss tells Politico what the stakes are in the 2012 election:
“At the end of the day, if President Obama is reelected, Obamacare stays. Or he’ll try to get something as close to it as the court will let him — and by the way, he may get a court appointment or two,” said Weekly Standard editor William Kristol, who has raised questions about Romney’s ability to rally the GOP on health care. “Romney is committed to repealing Obamacare root and branch. It’s a fundamental difference and Republicans — and Romney, if he’s the nominee, and no matter some awkwardness and sniping from the sidelines — will have to make Obamacare central to the campaign.”
But it would be helpful, Kristol added, “if Romney was willing to present himself explicitly as more than a technocrat and a manager, … [show] that he understands the core of the issue between Obama and the GOP is freedom and self-government.”
Whole thing here.
