The Washington Examiner reports that "Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was pressed by her husband and a top Obama aide to consider replacing Vice President Joe Biden just a couple of weeks ago, claims the author of the New York Times bestseller 'The Amateur.'" Clinton, the report states, turned down the request. ![]() But the secretary of state's staff is denying that this reported lunch between Clinton and top Obama aide Valerie Jarrett even took place, ever. In an email from a State Department spokesman to THE WEEKLY STANDARD, Philippe Reines, a longtime Clinton confidant, channels his inner Dr. Seuss to shoot down the report: "This did not happen In the same email chain, National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor adds, "Happening now in Dan’s cubicle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjoMQJf5vKI." The reference and link might be to Dan Pfeiffer, the White House communications director, who was cc'ed on the email exchange. Or, perhaps, Vietor is referring to me.
