Good career move by Ozzie Guillen, manager of the Miami Marlins, who was indiscrete enough to tell Time magazine that he “loves Fidel Castro.”
Had he been managing the San Francisco Giants, the remarks might not have cost him but the Miami franchise has suspended him for five games after Cuban Americans threatened to boycott the team’s new park which is located in, of course, Little Havana.
Guillen thus becomes one of the rare celebrity admirers of Castro to pay any price for cozying up to the bloody old tyrant. And he is, after all, merely a baseball manager whose opinion on much beyond the effectiveness of the squeeze play can be safely discounted.
Now, if only Michael Moore were suspended for five movies …
