Thomas E. Romney?

A thoughtful cruiser commented to us today he wasn't so sure that Mitt Romney was in fact more likely than Newt Gingrich to beat President Obama in the general election (a point that others are also making). He said that the first election he voted in was 1948, that he remembered that contest pretty well, and that Mitt Romney reminded him of Thomas E. Dewey, a Northeastern governor who lost to a not-so-popular Democratic incumbent. The comment seemed to us to have special punch in light of a) Romney's silly ad emphasizing that he’s been married to one person for 42 years and b) the most famous comment ever made about Dewey—Alice Roosevelt Longworth's crack that he looked like “the little man on the wedding cake.” Is Mitt Romney the tall monogamous man on the wedding cake?
