Bob Turner, the newly-elected Republican congressman from New York City who replaced Democrat Anthony Weiner, will be running for the GOP nomination to challenge Kirsten Gillibrand, a Democrat and New York's junior senator. The Associated Press reports:
Turner, the AP notes, is throwing in his hat just three days before the New York GOP's state convention in Rochester this Friday. The convention will designate a U.S. Senate candidate to run against Gillibrand in the fall. The blog at Capital Tonight, a statewide political television program, reported Sunday that state GOP leaders reportedly urged Turner to run.
