The website Jewish Ideas Daily has been, for quite some while, a star of the web, featuring interesting original material as well as links to other worthwhile writing embodying a lively, serious, and committed approach to Jewish issues and ideas. Today, Jewish Ideas Daily has re-launched as Mosaic. So if you're not already a regular, now's a good time to bookmark the site, or even easier, to sign up for the daily e-mails.

Like JID, Mosaic will provide daily “Editors’ Picks” of items from around the web. Today's include a review by Howard Jacobson of Ruth Wisse's book on Jewish humor (in Standpoint), a video on Avital Sharansky's extraordinary campaign to free her husband and Soviet Jewry, and more. But Mosaic will also feature an original, monthly long-form essay. The first such essay appears today, and it's Leon Kass’s reflections on the Ten Commandments, the most famous teaching of the Hebrew Bible. Kass argues that, despite their notoriety, or because of it, the Commandments are still only superficially understood, and that they deserve and demand a closer look. Kass provides it in a most stimulating and thought-provoking way. What's more, at intervals throughout the month, Mosaic will feature comments on Kass’s argument by well-known experts from different fields, an exclusive interview with the author, a rotating gallery of great works of art on the themes of the Ten Commandments, and more.

So go to Mosaic. As so many maternal descendants of Moses have said: Try it. You'll like it.
