The AAA has joined the side of the crackpots resisting the burning of food in internal combustion engines:
The AAA says the Environmental Protection Agency and gasoline retailers should halt the sale of E15, a new ethanol blend that could damage millions of vehicles and void car warranties.
Not to worry, says the CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association (that would be the lobbying organization for the corn famers and refiners who are doing very, very well on the ethanol mandate). The EPA isn't talking. But then, it doesn't have to. It is the government, after all.
It is interesting that corn continues to be force fed into cars – thus driving up the price of food – at a time when we are being told that the nation is less and less dependent on foreign sources of oil and may soon not require them at all. This would seem to eliminate entirely the need to make corn into fuel. Which explains why we need a Renewable Fuels Association.
Meanwhile, you might want to renew your AAA membership. That way, when ethanol fries the engine in your car, you'll be confident of getting a tow.
