Takes the Metro home.1:35 PM, Apr 30, 2012 • By MICHAEL WARRENRepublican congressman Allen West of Florida took to his Facebook page to criticize Washington, D.C. culture, after attending this year's White House Correspondents' Dinner over the weekend:
On Saturday night I was honored to be invited to the White House Correspondents Association dinner. There was much glam, glamour, and humor flowing. However, as I walked from the Washington Hilton in the rain to catch the METRO back to the Batcave, I pondered life outside that ballroom and the pomp. While the President laughs and dines, our Constitutional Republic is eroding and my countrymen are suffering. In this election year, it is sad to think that some of those who were sitting in that ballroom Saturday night laughing and living it up, are helping to perpetuate the manipulation and deception of our country.
West earned a mention from the night's entertainment, late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who brought up a recent interview in which President Obama referred to rapper Kanye West as a "jacka--." "No offense, sir, but I think you got the wrong West," Kimmel deadpanned. "I think you meant Allen."
West's aside about taking the Metro (subway) home is likely no populist embellishment: WEEKLY STANDARD staffers have witnessed the Florida congressman on board with other Washington commuters and tourists.

Since President Obama just signed the law, Congress has until August 16, two weeks from today, to fill the slots. The next question Democrats and Republicans will need to answer is, which of their members will they select for the supercommittee?

But the speaker got a big boost on his right flank today from Congressman Allen West (R, Fla.).
