House Republican Leader John Boehner announced yesterday that his former long time aide Barry Jackson would return as his new chief of staff. Jackson replaces Paula Nowakoski who passed away unexpectedly last week.
During the 1994 election cycle, Jackson was the director of the Contract with America project for the House Republicans. In that role, he managed the development of the legislative proposals included in the GOP’s Contract, as well as the strategic communications plan leading up the November election that year. The popularity of many of the ideas contained in the Contract with America contributed to helping Republicans win the majority in Congress that year.
Jackson brings a host of valuable experiences to the Republican Leader’s Office still mourning the sudden loss of Nowakowski and at the beginning of what promises to be a critical legislative and political year.
