Organizing for Action, the group that was President Obama's reelection team, sent out a fundraising pitch to supporters that features the 1999 Columbine High School shooting.
"My son, Daniel, was a smart, quiet kid. He'd just become a straight-A student, and he was overcoming his shyness as a new member of the debate team," the pitch, signed by Tom Mauser of Littleton, Colorado, reads.
On April 20th, 1999, my beautiful and bright 15-year-old son was killed by two teenagers with guns in the library of Columbine High School -- one of 12 innocent kids who lost their lives for no reason at all.
It's been 14 years since that horrible day -- 14 years of fighting so no family has to grieve like ours did.
These tragedies keep happening, and so far, Congress has failed to take common-sense action to stop them -- even though nine in 10 Americans have agreed that it's time to act by expanding background checks to close the loopholes that put guns in the hands of dangerous people.
This Wednesday, OFA and allied organizations are standing up for a national Day of Action to ask members of Congress: What will it take to finally act to prevent gun violence?
I hope you'll join in -- say you'll do one thing this week to show Congress you want action to prevent gun violence.
The ask comes after signing the petition, when users get this screen:

With an email today from the daughter of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the group formerly known as the Obama reelection campaign, Organizing for Action, is reigniting the fight over guns in America.
"My mom, Dawn Hochsprung, was the principal at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut," the email from Erica Lafferty begins.
"Six months ago today, she was shot and killed in her school, along with five of her coworkers and 20 of her students."
The message continues:

The president's former reelection campaign is pushing its supporters to "Stand up for Obamacare."
"Do you like Obamacare? Then I'm asking you to show it," writes executive director Jon Carson in an email to supporters this morning.
"Say you're on Team Obamacare, the group of grassroots supporters who will be spreading the word on how health care reform is improving the lives of millions of Americans -- and we'll send you a free bumper sticker to say thanks."

Today, President Obama personally became re-involved in his former campaign organization's new incarnation Organizing for Action. In a petition emailed today to supporters, Organizing for Action, President Obama's former campaign group, uses violence in Chicago to push for more gun control.
"In 2009, my schoolmate Greg Robinson was in the backseat of a car returning home from a basketball game when someone with a gun opened fire," the letter from "Ronnie Mosley," of Morehouse College Class of 2013, emails.

Despite assurances to the contrary, the former website of Obama for America, now Organizing for Action (OFA), continues to be used to promote Democratic party causes and candidates.

Obama for America (OFA) has transitioned into the apparently independent 501(c)(4) non-profit Organizing for Action. The group has retained Obama’s original website (BarackObama.com) and Twitter account (@BarackObama). And although the president's role in this new organization is not clear, his name and picture are featured prominently by OFA.

Obama for America continued its metamorphosis this week into Organizing for Action (OFA), an independent organization that will advocate for various "progressive" causes, including immigration reform and gun control. The BarackObama.com website, home of the presidential campaign of Barack Obama, has been changing as well, but the transition has not been without its missteps.

Zoila, Liam, and Alena were strangers with a shared goal. They met in Evanston, Illinois, last Saturday for the first time, telling other strangers they encountered as they walked door-to-door, “We’re here for the president.”
