The New York Times reports that Anthony Weiner is telling friends that he will resign:
Representative Anthony D. Weiner has told House leaders and friends that he plans to resign his seat after coming under growing pressure from his Democratic colleagues to leave the House, said a top Democratic official and two people told of Mr. Weiner’s plans.
His decision follows of revelations of his lewd online exchanges with women.
The top Democratic official said Mr. Weiner called Representative Nancy Pelosi of California and Representative Steve Israel of New York last night while they were at the White House picnic to inform them he had decided to resign on Thursday.

I notice that when Congressman Anthony Weiner is asked about resignation—usually on the fly, generally while hurrying past a scrum of reporters—that aura of contrition quickly evaporates. “No, I’m not resigning,” he declares, and the narrowed eyes and pursed lips familiar to viewers of his C-SPAN tantrums are suddenly in evidence.

If commenters on the Daily Kos website are an indication of how the left wing will respond to Anthony Weiner's admission of guilt in sending lewd pictures to women, it won't end well for the New York congressman, who was once considered a rising star in the Democratic party. Here are a few choice reactions (and some of the most popular) of Kos commenters:

This afternoon, New York Democratic congressman Anthony Weiner admitted that he lied about publishing a lewd photograph of himself on his Twitter feed. In a press conference at New York City's Sheraton Hotel, Weiner told reporters he meant to send the picture that sparked this controversy directly to a college student "as a joke" and said he is taking full responsibility for his actions. Weiner is not resigning from his seat in Congress.

Yesterday, Anthony Weiner had an incredibly testy 9-minute exchange with reporters who were asking him questions about the lewd photo posted on his Twitter account Friday night. Weiner repeatedly refused to say why he wouldn't ask the authorities to investigate what he alleged to be an illegal "hack" of his Twitter account (he's now downplaying the "hack" as a "prank"). At one point he called a CNN producer a "jackass" for pressing him on the question.

In what is probably best described as the Hindenburg of press conferences, Anthony Weiner was just confronted on CNN. If Weiner didn't send a lewd photo to a 21 year-old coed, then surely he has perfected the art of sounding guilty:
