Harry Reid Doesn't Know What to Do about Wall Street

Today, Harry Reid said this about the current turmoil on Wall Street: "No one knows what to do. We are in new territory here. This is a different game. We're not here playing soccer, basketball or football, this is a new game and we're going to have to figure out how to do it."

The RNC pounced:

"Harry Reid's despair and Barack Obama's failed leadership is what's wrong with Washington. Since crisis hit Wall Street, Obama has offered partisan attacks in lieu of fresh ideas or leadership. No wonder his party's leaders says they don't know what to do. If Harry Reid and Barack Obama don't know what to do, they should not be so dismissive of a bipartisan commission tasked with discovery and reform." - Alex Conant, RNC Spokesman

Reid's statement will undercut whatever the Democrats say to attack McCain's plans--whatever they may be--to deal with the situation on Wall Street. But since there isn't any indication that Republicans, or anyone else, know what to do, I think it goes a bit too far to attack Harry Reid's "despair." As much as I'd love to rip anything Harry Reid says, his statement seems more like a breath of fresh air.

Jim Geraghty characterized both Obama's and McCain's remarks on Wall Street as "painfully vague." The same could be said about the stylistically pleasing but substance-free ads they released today.

But until the dust settles, I don't think we can expect anything more concrete from either candidate.
