The Chamber of Commerce is sending out a new direct mail item on behalf of Indiana senator Dick Lugar, the National Journal reports. "Hoosiers are concerned about job growth...And...Dick Lugar is standing up for Indiana," the mailer reads, noting Lugar's support for building the Keystone XL pipeline and his opposition to Dodd-Frank, Obamacare, and cap and trade. Lugar faces a primary challenge from state treasurer Richard Mourdock, who has amassed support from grassroots conservatives and local Tea Party groups, as well as endorsements from organizations like the NRA and Club for Growth and prominent conservatives like Sarah Palin and Grover Norquist.
Lugar, meanwhile, has received support from the Chamber of Commerce as well as the National Association of Manufacturers and the National Federation of Independent Businesses. Popular Indiana governor Mitch Daniels and Arizona senator John McCain are also supporting Lugar for his seventh term in the U.S. Senate.
The Indiana Republican primary is on May 8, and recent polls have shown Lugar and Mourdock effectively tied.
