Tom Cotton, a Republican candidate for House of Representatives in Arkansas's Fourth Congressional District, is debuting a new ad that's running on television across the district. The ad will also run in Shreveport, Louisiana television markets, which reach several southern Arkansas counties. Watch it below:
"Washington is full of people who have never spent a day outside of politics. That's just gotta change," says Cotton, a retired Army ranger who served in Iraq and Afghanistan for five years after 9/11. Earlier this week, the Cotton campaign announced the endorsement of the Tea Party Express, an influential Tea Party group that referred to Cotton as a "true leader in every sense of the word" in its endorsement. Cotton has been endorsed by Arizona senator and 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain.
Cotton faces 1994 Miss Arkansas and former Mike Huckabee aide Beth Anne Rankin in the Republican primary, which will be held on May 22. Rankin ran unsuccessfully for the seat in 2010 against incumbent Democrat Mike Ross, who is retiring after this term. A poll released in mid-April showed Cotton and Rankin in a dead heat for the GOP nomination.
