Renee Ellmers, the long shot Republican candidate for Congress in North Carolina's Second Congressional District, is out with her first television ad:
Mike Davis, a spokesman for incumbent Democrat Bob Etheridge, responded to the ad's central claim: "Bob Etheridge has never thought building this mosque and community center so close to Ground Zero is a good idea," Davis tells me in an email. "This political tactic is designed solely to distract voters from Ellmers’s support of a new 23 percent tax hike on middle-class families that will increase the cost of everything they buy – and kill jobs."
Ellmers told THE WEEKLY STANDARD she supports "tax cuts across the board" and that the Bush tax cuts should be extended. Davis says Etheridge is for extending middle class tax cuts but not for "extending tax cuts for the wealthiest."
