Troubling numbers in the latest Gallup:
Americans' confidence in all three branches of the U.S. government has fallen, reaching record lows for the Supreme Court (30%) and Congress (7%), and a six-year low for the presidency (29%). The presidency had the largest drop of the three branches this year, down seven percentage points from its previous rating of 36%.
The numbers suggest something more than disenchantment with the current court, members of Congress, or occupant of the White House. They indicate kind of overarching demoralization. There economy is stalled on the road and Washington does not seem to know how to deal with the breakdown. The borders have been breeched by illegal immigrants. Our enemies abroad are on the move, defiant and unafraid.
The thing to remember, especially this week, is that the United States of America has been through tougher patches than this and it knows how to do comebacks.
