With less than two weeks to go before the May 8 Republican primary, incumbent senator Dick Lugar and Indiana state treasurer Richard Mourdock are fighting hard with television ads airing across Indiana.
The first comes from Lugar's campaign and features the popular two-term governor Mitch Daniels. "I can't think of anyone so reflective of the thinking, the principles, and the ideals of our state," Daniels says in the ad. "I'm not for Dick Lugar for what he's done but for what he can do." Mourdock, meanwhile, has a new ad casting Lugar's longevity in the Senate as a negative, a theme Mourdock has hit on frequently in this campaign. "When Dick Lugar moved to Washington, he left behind more than his house," a voiceover in the ad says. "He left behind his conservative Hoosier values." Watch the ad below:
Lugar told THE WEEKLY STANDARD yesterday that he believes he will win the GOP primary but was unsure if the Tea Party movement as a whole, parts of which have supported Mourdock, is a positive force in the Republican party.
