Arizona senator John McCain, a Vietnam veteran and the 2008 GOP presidential candidate, has endorsed Tom Cotton for Congress. Cotton, a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, is running for the Republican nomination for Arkansas's Fourth Congressional District against the 2010 GOP nominee, Beth Anne Rankin.
“Tom Cotton volunteered to fight for our freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan when he could have continued a promising legal career,” said McCain, according to a campaign statement. “We badly need this kind of courage and selfless service in Congress – particularly to address our economic challenges. I’m asking the voters of the Fourth District to send Tom to Congress so he can join the fight for freedom there.”
The Arkansas primary is on May 22, and a recent poll showed Cotton and Rankin tied. Both are running to replace retiring Democratic congressman Mike Ross.
