Former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon has won the endorsement of the Connecticut Republican party in the race for the U.S. Senate. The New Haven Register reports:
HARTFORD — Linda McMahon, the wrestling entrepreneur, has prevailed for a second time, with the Republican Convention endorsing her as its candidate for U.S. Senate in a 2-1 win over her main opponent.
The official tally was 730 for McMahon to 389 for former U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays, who had conceded before the vote was announced around 11:30 p.m. She won with 60.4 percent of the vote to 32.2 percent for Shays.
McMahon called for the party to come together, but Shays earlier said he was ready to take his fight to a primary and then to the general election.
Shays has said he will contest the August 14 primary.
