Nebraska senator Mike Johanns, a Republican elected in 2008, will not seek reelection in 2014. Kasie Hunt of NBC News has the scoop:
Nebraska Republican Sen. Mike Johanns has informed Republicans in his home state that he will retire at the end of his current Senate term, GOP sources tell NBC News.
The first-term senator has informed Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman that he won't run for reelection in 2014, a Republican official said.
Johanns was Nebraska's governor from 1999 to 2005 and later served in the George W. Bush administration as agriculture secretary. His successor in the governor's mansion, fellow Republican Dave Heineman, may seek the Senate seat himself.
