Dear Mr. Kristol,
Rest assured, good sir. The truth about Benghazi is seeping into the consciousness of the voting public. But how do I know this?
I just got off the phone with my dear mother in western Pennsylvania, as she enjoys her 78th birthday today. Mom is highly intelligent, still sharp as a tack; a devout Italian-American Catholic and a lifelong Democrat who has never voted for a Republican candidate for president of the United States. Ever.
When I asked her if she’s begun seeing all the political ads on TV in Pennsylvania she replied, “Yes, but thank God I’ve already voted.” She said that she didn’t like either candidate, and wasn’t going to vote at all, but that she decided to register her vote in protest. Shockingly, she confessed that she voted for Romney.
“What were you protesting, mom?” I asked. Her reply was remarkable and inspirational:
“I’ve been doing my research about Christopher Stevens, our poor Ambassador who was killed in Libya. He went to school, worked for humanitarian causes, and then served our country in a dangerous place. He was doing a great job and everyone loved him. He practically begged for protection from the terrorists who were gathering there. But Obama turned his back on him.”
So take heart, Mr. Kristol. The fog of war about who told whom to do what when on 9.11.12 is far too murky to divine truth. But the Obama Administration’s criminally negligent provision of soft American targets for Islamic terrorists in Libya is so crystal clear that a lifetime Democrat can see it.
