It is close, we are told again and again. And you can find someone with the expert credentials to confirm your hopes, whichever way you lean. Karl Rove has it figured for Romney. Nate Silver is willing to put a couple thousand, cash money, on Obama. The BLS unemployment numbers come out tomorrow and they may, or may not, influence the outcome. The storm may have helped the president ... or not.
All of which means that, however it turns out, on Wednesday we will still be a 50/50 nation looking at $16 trillion of debt. Doubtful that anyone (any American, anyway) would find much to like in those numbers. Moving those numbers will be the challenge for the winner of the election.
Raising taxes and appointing a secretary of business ought to do the trick.
