Yesterday, the Des Moines Register reported that former New York governor George Pataki, who has been considering a run for the Republican nomination for president, will travel to Iowa's Polk County this weekend for a local GOP fundraiser:
Iowans are buzzing over whether he could use the event to declare his intentions.
“Strong chance he will announce, I believe,” organizer Darrell Kearney told the Register tonight.
Pataki will join two declared presidential candidates, Texas Rep. Ron Paul and Michigan Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, as featured speakers....
On Monday, Pataki’s spokesman, David Catalfamo, told CBS News that Pataki was “seriously considering” a candidacy.
In an email, Catalfamo followed up by saying, "there is an urgency to the decision making process and I expect the announcement soon," though he did not elaborate on when and where Pataki would make the announcement. According to TampaBay.com, the three term governor of New York is calling up Florida bundlers to look for support.
