A new poll from Rasmussen shows Herman Cain with a 10-point lead over Mitt Romney among 770 likely South Carolina Republican primary voters. Thirty-three percent of respondents prefer Cain, as opposed to 23 percent for Romney. Newt Gingrich polled third at 15 percent.
The poll, which was taken on Tuesday evening in the wake of news reports that allege Cain sexually harassed former employees, also revealed that 58 percent of those polled believe the charges against Cain are unlikely.
According to the RealClearPolitics average, Cain currently leads in South Carolina over rivals Romney and Rick Perry. Gingrich has made small improvements there during October, while Perry has fallen substantially from when he led in the state in August and September.
