Mitt Romney has endorsed Florida congressman Connie Mack for Senate, according to a campaign statement.
“Connie Mack is a friend, a strong conservative and the type of principled leader we need in Washington to restore fiscal responsibility," read the statement. "By electing Connie Mack, the people of Florida will be sending a clear message to Senator Nelson and President Obama that their failed policies have not worked to change the borrow and spend ways of Washington.”
Mack, who endorsed Romney ahead of last January's presidential primary, is running against former senator George LeMieux in the GOP Senate primary on August 14. The winner of that election will face incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson in November.
A recent Rasmussen poll showed Nelson leading Mack, 47 percent to 36 percent, while Nelson is beating LeMieux, 44 percent to 30 percent.
