Mitt Romney, campaigning in Tennessee today, recited lyrics to "The Ballad of Davy Crockett."
"Remember the song?" Romney said. "'Born on a mountaintop in Tennessee, greenest state in the land of the free, raised in the woods so he knew every tree, and he killed himself a bear when he was only three.'" Watch the video here.
Romney might have done better to recite the lyrics to "Rocky Top," one of Tennessee's nine official state songs and always a crowd favorite.
Rick Santorum leads Romney slightly in the RealClearPolitics poll average for Tennessee, whose Republicans vote in the primary tomorrow.
Update: A friend sends along some revised lyrics for Romney to sing to the tune of "Rocky Top" in defense of his major accomplishment in Massachusetts:
Once I signed a bill called Romneycare
For Massachusetts it's great
But don't compare my law to Obamacare
The issue's owned by the states.
Wish that you'd ignore my old Romneycare
Fall in line behind me
Time for all the local Tea Parties
To choose electability.
Romneycare, you'll always be
No big deal to me
Good old Romneycare
Romneycare's nothin', you see
Romneycare's nothin', you see.
