Delay, Delay, Delay

The lawless tweaking of Obamacare’s provisions continues.
Mar 17, 2014

Another week, another Obamacare delay, improvised by the administration. The latest is particularly laughable. It seems the administration miscalculated when it first decided to delay Obamacare’s mandated minimum coverage requirements for health insurance. According to the Hill: “A one-year moratorium pushed the deadline beyond the midterm election, but insurers must send out cancellation notices 90 days in advance.

Obamacare Architect: 'Could Be the Beginning of a Death Spiral'

8:04 AM, Nov 15, 2013

Harvard professor David Cutler, a so-called architect of Obamacare, says we "could be" witnessing "the beginning of a death spiral" for the unpopular health care bill. Cutler made the comments last night on Fox News:

"So when you were on last week I asked you, if they don't get enough people in the exchanges, then what happens?" said host Megyn Kelly. "And you said then the premiums go up very, very high. Now, was that ball put in motion today?"

Liberal Conn. Senator: Consider Delaying Obamacare Mandate

9:53 AM, Oct 24, 2013

Liberal Connecticut senator Richard Blumenthal said this morning on national television that we should consider delaying the Obamacare individual mandate:

"So given what is going on and the purpose of this hearing or at least the stated purpose of the hearing," said an MSNBC host, "do you agree with some other Democrats who have come out and said we need to delay the penalty for the individual mandate?"

No Mandate

Oct 21, 2013

Contrary to many pundits’ expectations, congressional Republicans seem to have zigzagged their way to a reasonable position in the ongoing budget battles. To be sure, their clumsy manner of getting there has helped to obscure this conclusion. Nevertheless, the GOP has the better argument in the battles over funding the federal government and raising the debt limit.

Obama Delays Minimum Wage Increase

11:28 AM, Sep 19, 2013

Yesterday, President Obama signed a number of supposedly uncontroversial bills into law.

One new law contains a provision that has been controversial in the past.

The law, S. 256, gives the government of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) authority over submerged lands surrounding its coastlines, gives the President authority to establish naval defensive sea areas there, and also delays scheduled increases in the minimum wage for the remote island.

A Careless Executive

Obama’s failure to do his constitutional duty.
Aug 05, 2013

Is Obama lawless? House Republicans certainly think so. The issue involves the Affordable Care Act, under which employers with 50 or more full-time workers must provide health insurance in terms defined by the statute or pay a $2,000 penalty per employee. Known as the “employer mandate,” it was to take effect in 2014. On July 2, however, the Treasury Department announced it would delay enforcement of the mandate, and certain reporting requirements necessary for its administration, to 2015.

Mandate Madness

Jul 29, 2013

It is not often that a president announces his decision not to enforce a law as written, the House of Representatives responds by offering to restore the rule of law by amending that law to permit the delay the president wishes .  .  . and then the president threatens to veto that legislation if it gets to his desk. But such is the pathbreaking and jaw-dropping spectacle of Obamacare.

It’s Just Contradiction

Jul 22, 2013

In just a few years, Washington Post wunderkind Ezra Klein has made himself the go-to journalist whenever the NPR-totebag set wants to understand a complicated policy issue. In particular, he’s established himself as arguably the leading health care pundit, thanks to his tireless efforts blogging and reporting. Far too many reporters, young and old, are lazy, and to Klein’s credit he works hard. Of course, if your job were to come up with explanations for why Obamacare is working, you too would end up busier than a beaver in a lake of espresso.

The White House’s Peculiar Obamacare Delay

7:15 AM, Jul 03, 2013

The Obama administration must have been hearing some awfully threatening noises from the business community lately, because its unilateral delay of Obamacare’s employer mandate, from 2014 to 2015, is otherwise very difficult to explain. The delay is an embarrassing move for the White House and will create some serious new headaches for Obamacare’s defenders.
