Wisconsin governor Scott Walker is announcing that he's running for president today. Because of Walker's anti-Union reputation, AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka made sure to weigh in.

Unions Ready Shadow Convention

Three weeks before the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, union leaders are investing a significant amount of time and money on a “shadow convention” for organized workers, which will be held August 11 in Philadelphia, and called the Workers Stand for America rally. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers will donate $1 million, and “picking up a lot of the tab,” according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The president of the largest trade union federation in the country told reporters Thursday morning that the union money donated to Democrats in the 2008 election was "worth it."

At a breakfast sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor, THE WEEKLY STANDARD asked AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka if the approximately $1.2 million his organization donated to political campaigns benefitting Barack Obama and Democrats in 2008 was worth it.
