Double Standards

Does the American left collectively share responsibility for the Islamic terrorist shooting in San Bernardino? The Scrapbook doesn't believe in such a sweeping judgment, but if one were consistently to apply the left's own logic, they end up indicting themselves.

Recall that in the days leading up to the San Bernardino attack, the left was working overtime to blame the allegedly irresponsible rhetoric of Republicans and pro-life activists for the fact that an obviously mentally disturbed man killed three people at an abortion clinic. ABC: 'Hybrid Workplace Jihad'

ABC reporter Brian Ross called yesterday's California massacre "hybrid workplace jihad" this morning. Watch here:

"Well, it appears to be a kind of hybrid workplace jihad," said Ross.

"He had issues, he targeted his co-workers but also had recently traveled to Saudi Arabia where he met the woman he says he married. On his website, the dating line website, he appears to be an all-American boy, snowboarding, and guns and likes to relax by going the backyard for target practice.

Hillary Fundraises Off Gun Violence

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton sent an email to supporters about gun violence. 

"Gun violence isn’t an inevitability -- it’s a virus and we must do whatever we can to stop it," the email reads.

"Our children should feel safe going to school. They should feel safe at the movie theater. And they should feel safe in places of worship.

President Obama called the Baltimore riots "counterproductive" in remarks today at the White House:

"There's no excuse for the kind of violence that we saw yesterday," Obama said. "It's stealing, it's arson."

Of the rioters, the president added, "they need to be treated as criminals."

"This has been a slow rolling crisis," said Obama.

Obama: Gun Violence in USA 'Off the Charts'

President Obama blasted gun violence in a Tumblr event today at the White House. He said that it's "off the charts" here in America. 

"This is becoming the norm," he said. "We should be ashamed."

Pres Obama, in response to a question that Karp said was submitted a few days ago from a tumblr user about mass shootings, declared that as president "my biggest frustration so far is that this society has not been willing to take some basic steps" to curb gun violence.

When Is Politically Motivated Violence 'Expected'?

Today is the one year anniversary of the Family Research Council shooting, when an armed gunman unhappy with the organization's stance on gay issues entered its building in downtown Washington D.C. with the intent of killing everyone in the building. The gunman shot FRC's security guard, Leo Johnson, who bravely fought and subdued the gunman even after he was wounded. The gunman would later tell the FBI that he selected the Family Research Council as a target because it was listed as a "hate" group on the Southern Poverty Law Center's website.
