First Read's Domenico Montanaro raises the possibility of people raising the possibility that Bill Richardson may jump into the fight to replace Pete Domenici. Notes Montanaro: The New Mexico filing deadline occurs after the voting in early primary and caucus states.

I'm inclined to agree with Mickey Kaus that Richardson's chances in the primaries are seriously undervalued. Voters do not have the same criteria for judging a candidate as the media.

If you are Richardson, you have to like your career prospects at the moment. You are moving up in presidential primary polls. There's the strong possibility you could be the Democratic party's 2008 vice presidential nominee. And there's also the possibility you could be the man who flips a coveted Senate seat for the Democrats.
