The Kiss of Death?

MoveOn has endorsed Barack Obama.

A couple of points. First, Obama has no trouble raising money--which seems to be the only thing that MoveOn is good at. Second, MoveOn is unbelievably divisive. The "Petraeus Betray Us" ad was spectacularly counterproductive and, as is so often the case with MoveOn, the campaign had the effect of sowing discord within the Democratic party and uniting Republicans. The endorsement is an albatross for Obama. He was named as our most liberal senator yesterday, and today he is endorsed by the country's most high-profile liberal activist organization. Not good.

Howard Dean was the favorite of the netroots and look where that got him. Ditto Edwards in '08. Obama can't turn it down, but neither should he cultivate the relationship. He won't get anything out of it, and he'll have their support regardless. What are the Movers going to do--support Hillary? Not a chance. She's Bush-lite.
