Hanoi Jane and Jimmy Carter Endorse Obama

Two endorsements he could do without, but at least Carter's a superdelegate.

TMZ has the video of Fonda's endorsement, which prompted one spectator, presumably an Obama supporter, to exclaim, "oh God! Heaven help us all." It does set up a nice contrast. McCain spent five odd years in the Hanoi Hilton being tortured by the Vietnamese and Foda, well...

It's only going to get worse for Obama in this regard. He's almost certainly going to be the nominee, but part of his success came from the fact that he wasn't seen as a conventional, orthodox liberal (which he most certainly is). Now he's being co-opted by the Democratic wing of the Democratic party. Maybe Obama's new kind of politics prevents him from having a Sister Souljah moment in which he puts a little distance between himself and this crowd, but this kind of support is problematic. Part of Obama's electability argument is that he can win in otherwise red states, but having Jimmy Carter and Jane Fonda endorse...that isn't going to play well in Kansas.
