More Speculation on Murphy

Mike Allen reports that Mike Murphy wants a decision from the McCain campaign by tomorrow:

Mike Murphy, a renowned political consultant negotiating to join the presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), wants a decision by lunchtime tomorrow, sources close to him report.

“All this public process speculation is bad for the campaign,” a friend said Tuesday morning, adding that Murphy is “going to move to shut it down one way of the other in [the] next 24 hours.”

UPDATE: Ambinder says it's unlikely that Murphy will join the campaign.

UPDATE II: Allen reports

Mike Murphy, a political consultant who helped Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) mastermind his 2000 campaign, will not be reboarding the Straight Talk Express.

“I do not expect to join the campaign,” Murphy said. “They’re my friends, and I wish them well.”
