Braves on the Warpath

I can’t believe there is any concern at all that tonight’s NFL opener will somehow detract from viewership of John McCain’s nomination acceptance speech at the convention. After all, kickoff is at 7:07pm EST and McCain will probably appear around the 10pm mark. This would put the Redskins-Giants game somewhere near the end of the fourth quarter. And based on Washington’s last two preseason games (losing 47-3 to the Carolina Panthers and 24-3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars), the Skins could be behind by 33 points against the defending Super Bowl champions (who are actually favored to win by only 5). Of course, Washington’s new coach Jim Zorn could have somehow gotten everyone together on the same page of his playbook and lead the team into a nailbiter overtime ending. Alas, that would require the audacity of hope.
