Tomorrow, Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno will take command of operations in Iraq from Gen. David Petraeus, who moves to head up CENTCOM, where he will oversee operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In a letter to the troops dated Sept. 15, Petraeus thanks those serving in Iraq for their hard-fought achievements:

"The progress achieved has been hard-earned," he wrote. "There have been many tough days along the way, and we have suffered tragic losses. Indeed, nothing in Iraq has been anything but hard. But you have been more than equal to every task."
