Biden Says Nothing

We were already swimming in a sea of bloviation here at the Munich Security Conference. Then Joe Biden spoke shortly after noon today.

It was more of the same. Vague generalizations, tired formulations--and no substance. It doesn't matter much, one supposes--it's just a speech at a conference. But the new administration could have taken this chance to speak truth to complacency, to bring a sense of reality to endless talk that's amazingly detached from the real world.

The administration chose not to use the occasion to say something interesting. One hopes the Obama administration is actually thinking more seriously than the Biden speech indicates. Even the conference crowd here was underwhelmed by Biden. Not a strong performance by the new administration.
