Michelle Obama, Cover Girl

The rumors are true. First Lady Michelle Obama is the March Vogue cover girl, the Washington Post reported yesterday. And MSNBC revealed the secret cover, photographed by Annie Leibovitz at the Hay-Adams Hotel in Washington, D.C.:
Lucky woman, eh? She is the second First Lady--the only aside from Hillary Clinton--to be pictured on the cover of the most revered fashion magazine in the country. She's wearing a magenta Jason Wu gown and a massive diamond ring that is reportedly not her usual wedding ring. The ice-queen editor Anna Wintour praised her sense of style as "a simpler, streamlined, more modern attitude, rejecting the ridiculous idea that the only way for a First Lady to dress is in the dreaded White House standard-issue uniform--the boxy, anonymous suit." And Vogue editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley told MSNBC, "She doesn't need any help. She loves fashion and knows what works for her." The fashion industry is at her feet.
Now, will she return the favor and attend Fashion Week next week in New York? She reportedly hasn't RSVP'ed to any of the many runway shows and events she has been invited to, but Bryant Park seems to be the proper place for a Vogue cover girl, don't you think?
