NIAC, the National Iranian American Council, is Iran's de facto anti-sanctions, pro-regime lobby in Washington. The organization was founded by individuals with deep personal and business ties to the Rafsanjani camp in Iran and has long maintained policy positions parallel to the Islamic Republic. Since its inception NIAC has worked to remove and stop any sanctions on Iran, regardless of the Iranian regime's behavior. They have an actual membership of less than 1,000 people, but in the fight against sanctions they have found a new ally with close ties to the current administration -- J Street. The latest sign of this collaboration between J Street and NIAC comes in the form of a fundraising email from Trita Parsi, NIAC's director, which suggests the group expects to be battling some kind of scandal in the near future:
