While I didn't highlight the book after the fact -- I have much of you on my
blog:

http://www.thewashingtonnote.com/mt/mt-search.cgi?IncludeBlogs=1&search=...
a+parsi&Go=Go&jumpMenu=choose+a+site%3A

I admire you greatly.....but I have so much to do, essentially two jobs --
and the decisions on what to blog or not to blog are complicated. As I told
you before, I don't tend to be the kind of commentator to bandwagon other
stuff already out there -- and you were out there everywhere..... But there
was another element to my problem with posting on your book at that time
that I tried to nudge you on. While you were critiquing the US government
on Iran -- you were saying little critical towards the misbehavior of the
IRGC or Ahmad. And while I generally agree with your analysis -- I felt
that you were allowing yourself to be pigeon-holed by the press into a
pro-Iran position....rather than a position that was realistically assessing
the situaiton between Iran, the US, the Saudis, the Israelis etc....as I
said, I generally agreed with you overall....but I really didn't like how
you were put in mostly an Iran advocacy position.

Had I written about the book at that time -- I would have felt the need to
qualify my commentary with something along the lines above, and I figured it
would be more helpful to you and your book to just let this time pass -- I
had the Salon piece out and knew something along the lines of the NIE would
emerge -- and there would be a time later I could comment on the book
without my having to comment on your other public commmentary, with which I
was at slight odds.

In other words, it was better that I said nothing then....

I didn't mean to irritate you -- or to disappoint you. I take the blog and
what I write very seriously and while I try to be as forthright and honest
as I can be, I also don't want to hurt friends or to be artificial,
particularly when important issues are being discussed....

So, I will reference the book positively -- and you, of course, but I wanted
out of the window of binary choices on bombing or not bombing Iran -- which
we were in...
