In a floor speech today, Sen. Mitch McConnell used Obama's own precipice imagery against him (although he was kind of working against himself already with "precipice"):

"There's a good chance [Dems] will not be able to get their members to lock arms & walk off a cliff."

McConnell and McCain also pointed out that almost no one has seen the "compromise" bill Reid is putting forth, mostly because it's not clear either a bill or a compromise exists yet, and may not until right before the vote (if then):

McConnell: "We've seen the Pelosi bill and the Reid bill, but no one who can't fit in a phone booth has seen the new bill."

McCain:"This attempt to rewrite 1/6 of the economy is being jammed through before Christmas, an artificial deadline...You talk about change, it isn't change that you can believe in, it's change that's astonishing...Only one senator has seen this bill."
