Jeffrey H. Anderson nails it: "For after nearly a year's worth of debate, Obamacare has now been boiled down to its essence: a mandate that Americans pay trillions of dollars, funneled through Washington, to private insurers."

The left dislikes the mandate because it will benefit private insurers. The right dislikes the mandate because it limits individual freedom. After a year, then, Obama has finally kept a campaign promise: He has brought the left and right together.
