CNN: U.S. Officials See Russian Incursion into Ukraine as an 'Uncontested Arrival,' Not an 'Invasion'

Amid reports that Russian military forces have entered Ukraine, CNN reports that U.S. officials are calling the incursion an "uncontested arrival," not necessarily "an invasion," and that this distinction is "key."

This evening, President Obama said that the United States is "deeply concerned" about reports of Russian military activity in Ukraine: "We are now deeply concerned by reports of military movements taken by the Russian Federation inside of Ukraine. Russia has a historic relationship with Ukraine, including cultural and economic ties, and a military facility in Crimea, but any violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity would be deeply destabilizing, which is not in the interest of Ukraine, Russia, or Europe."
