President Barack Obama is meeting with the embattled senator from New Jersey, Bob Menendez, this afternoon at the White House. The meeting, which the White House says is for an immigration discussion, will be attended by three other Democratic senators.
"Mr. Obama will meet with Democratic Sens. Charles Schumer of New York, Dick Durbin of Illinois, Robert Menendez of New Jersey and Michael Bennet of Colorado, according to a White House official. The meeting is set for later in the day Wednesday. The four senators are half of a bipartisan group of lawmakers that has put forward a plan to overhaul the nation’s immigration system," the Wall Street Journal reports.
The White House's announcement from an unnamed official does not name who will be attending. It just says:
"Later this afternoon, the President will meet with Senate Democrats leading the effort to pass bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform. The meeting is part of the ongoing effort to continue to make progress towards bipartisan reform, which the Administration believes should happen as quickly as possible."
The meeting will be behind closed doors.
