Former speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is in the news today, following:
… a sit-down interview in her office in the Capitol, [during which] the House minority leader stopped short of predicting that Democrats would regain the lower chamber in the 2014 midterm elections, but she had no hesitation in saying what she would use a majority for.
As Mike Lillis of The Hill reports, at the top of Ms. Pelosi's legislative to-do list is:
“… comprehensive affordable, quality childcare” for working mothers, which she sees as a natural extension of ObamaCare.
Which is one of those vast, and vastly ambitious, social welfare programs that politicians from the left find irresistible no matter their history of failure. In their hearts, it is always 1965, and the advent of the Great Society.
Pelosi views the big childcare program as:
"… the missing link in so many things that we’ve talked about. It is not exhaustive of all the things we want to do or have done with regard to women, but I do think it would unleash the power of women.”
But there is more, much more. All of it terribly urgent. And to learn about the other items on her ambitious agenda (some of them anyway) one merely needs to visit Ms. Pelosi's Twitter account to find:
… why we cannot wait any longer to pass comprehensive immigration reform (Oct 25)
We can't wait any longer to combat the climate crisis. Learn what carbon is costing our country (Oct 22)
And never forget that:
… we cannot afford to wait any longer to create jobs and strengthen the middle class. (Oct 22)
And, then, on another matter:
In an interview with The Hill, the California Democrat said it “probably would be a good idea if they [the Washington Redskins] change the name.”
Nothing, however, about how this one can't wait, so maybe Dan Snyder can stall for a while.
