Hillary Clinton reportedly prefers that her replacement be Senator John Kerry, and not Susan Rice, the current ambassador to the United Nations. Both Kerry and Rice have been rumored to be next in line for the secretary of state job. Clinton intends to step down from the post "days" after President Barack Obama's second inauguration in January.

“Hillary is not close to Rice, who is tough — but is not the friendliest person,” a White House source tells the Chicago Sun-Times. “And Hillary’s brief comment recently that Rice had done ‘a great job’ was considered underwhelming and tepid.”

Clinton and Kerry served together in the U.S. Senate for several years.

"It would be hard for President Obama to back away from Rice, but he’s dealing with what’s known as 'the Club of the Senate,' which includes powerful U.S. Sen. John McCain — a Republican — who is adamantly against Rice and a big supporter of Kerry’s," the report reads.

Like her boss, President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton has publicly praised Susan Rice.

"Susan Rice has done a great job as our ambassador to the United Nations," Clinton recently said in public. "Of course, this decision about my successor is up to the president, but I am very happy he has the opportunity with a second term to make a decision."

A decision on who will be the nominated to be the next secretary of state is expected from the White House soon.
