Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney just issued the following statement, in response to testimony today on Capitol Hill from Admiral Michael Mullen and General David Petraeus:
Yesterday, I warned against arbitrary timetables for withdrawal and said I wanted to hear from our military commanders about the President's plan to remove troops from Afghanistan. We have now heard from both Admiral Mullen and General Petraeus, and it is clear the President did not follow their advice. By failing to do so, he puts at risk the success of our mission in Afghanistan.
Yesterday, I noted that Romney issued a "bad" statement in response to President Obama's decision to drawdown troops from Afghanistan. In light of his most recent statement, it's worth offering Romney at least a bit praise for now recognizing that the president's Afghanistan decision "risk[s] the success of our mission in Afghanistan."
