Rumors of War

The debate over what, if anything, the United States should do regarding Syria, and the crossing of the "red line," continues. Some of the support for action is coming from some surprising places.  Nancy Pelosi, for instance, stated that:

“It is clear that the American people are weary of war. However, Assad gassing his own people is an issue of our national security, regional stability and global security.”

And, according to Jonathan Allen and Jake Sherman, writing in Politico on the administration's briefing of members of Congress:

"...Pelosi 'said we should do something,'"

And another source said:

"... Pelosi was advocating “for action.”

Whoever is for and against action, one hopes they will think beyond the issues of "credibility," and the "sending of messages."  This is war, after all, about which General Sherman words should be considered before that first shot is fired.

You cannot qualify war in harsher terms than I will. War is cruelty, and you cannot refine it; and those who brought war into our country deserve all the curses and maledictions a people can pour out. I know I had no hand in making this war, and I know I will make more sacrifices to-day than any of you to secure peace.
