Vice President Joe Biden surprised a man in Singapore when he sat next to him today. It was a surprise because the guy didn't recognize Biden.'

The man asked after Biden had joined him at a table for a photo-op, "Who is he?"

The report comes from the pool report.

"United States Vice President Joe Biden got a little taste of local fare on his three-day visit to Singapore. He and his son-in-law Howard Krein made a 10-minute stop at the Adam Road hawker centre Thursday afternoon, a place famous for its prawn noodle soup and nasi lemak fried rice," reads the pool report.

Mr Biden walked around greeting the food stall owners, as a crowd formed around him to take photos. "Is that the Vice President?" wondered one onlooker to her boyfriend.

Mr Biden surprised another diner when he sat down next to him so that the two could take a photo together. Later the man asked: "Who is he?"

Stall owner Shahul Haeed, 72, stopped Mr Biden to ask him to buy a drink.

After scrutinising the menu, Mr Biden bought two cups of fresh lime juice for S$3.

Mr Haeed introduced him to his son who described how Singapore's famous teh tarik milk tea is made.

"I said this is the local teh tarik. You mix the tea with condensed milk and then you pull," he said spreading his arms wide apart. "The more you pull the more bubbles form. He didn't try it though."
