President Obama recently characterized al Qaeda as a nearly-spent force “on the path to defeat,” an organization whose “remaining operatives spend more time thinking about their own safety than plotting against us.”
As John T. Bennett of Defense News reports, this view is not shared by some in his administration whose job is to assess the threats to this country from such as al Qaeda. In testimony on Capitol Hill, Defense Intelligence Agency director Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn was asked if he believed al Qaeda was beaten and on the run. He answered, “They are not."
