Weiner Avoids Tabloid Wood by Announcing Mayoral Run in Middle of the Night

Anthony Weiner announced overnight that he'll be running for mayor of New York City. He made the announcement by releasing this YouTube video:

Weiner, who resigned from Congress after getting caught sending lewd pictures of himself to women he had never met, uses part of the video to admit his mistakes.

“Look, I made some big mistakes, and I know I let a lot of people down,” Weiner says looking straight into the camera. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons.”

But though Weiner's roll-out plan for announcing his candidacy might be unorthodox, it isn't without benefit. Check out the front pages of New York City's major tabloids--the New York Post and the New York Daily News. Anthony Weiner cannot be found.

And by tomorrow, 24 hours from now, won't the Weiner for mayor news be too old to lead with? Might it be too late for either of these papers to do what they (especially the Post) does best and mock Weiner and ruin his mayoral candidacy roll-out? Perhaps that's what Weiner was hoping for, but I guess we'll see tomorrow whether the plan worked.
